Squidward then woke up and was understandably angry, but SpongeBob and Patrick captured him. After analyzing the “egg”, Squidward rolled over to his side and one of his tentacles landed on Patrick’s helmet, attaching to it and frightening Patrick, just like the facehugger did with Kane in that same scene in Alien. This is reminiscent of the scene in Ridley Scott’s Alien where Kane (John Hurt) found the egg, though SpongeBob and Patrick didn’t really have anything to fear. SpongeBob took it to analyze it as they thought it was an egg, so they placed a light under the bottle and SpongeBob’s hands resembled baby octopuses. When SpongeBob and Patrick entered Squidward’s house, Squidward was sleeping, and they pulled a water bottle from his bed. SpongeBob and Patrick took some net guns that Sandy had for harvesting moon rocks and repurposed them for catching aliens, and went through Bikini Bottom catching everyone that crossed their way as they thought they were aliens that took the shape of some of their friends, such as Squidward – and it’s in the scene where they capture him where the Alien reference can be found, all thanks to his anatomy and his water bottle. SpongeBob and Patrick then snuck into the ship and accidentally started it up, flying over the moon but landing back at Bikini Bottom, but they thought they were on the moon and it looked a lot like their hometown.
In the episode “Sandy’s Rocket”, SpongeBob and Patrick snuck into Sandy’s new rocket ship as they wanted to hunt for aliens, which is something Sandy wasn’t on board with as her planned trip to the moon was for science and not fun and nonsense.
